You may be aware that the UCI (Union Internationale de Cyclistes) World Championships took place in Yorkshire last month; the 22nd – 29thSeptember, to be exact. The event had a lot of media coverage and consisted of several different races that started at locations around Yorkshire and finished in Harrogate. Now that the excitement is subsiding it is worth remembering a parallel event: The UCI Senior World Championships. A few years ago, I had some issues with my left thumb. I had started to experience a lot of pain in the joint at the base of my thumb and realised that it wasn’t functioning properly. Positive Points: What’s in a name?

When I left the NHS to set up on my own, one of the biggest challenges for me was to decide on a name for my new venture. The name had to be relevant, appropriate and make sense for the company and the principles behind it. After much deliberation, the name Positive Positioning was chosen. I feel the name works well as it covers the many facets of the company and the services and support we offer. In this month’s blog we are going to discuss the influential factors for seating the goals to be achieved through appropriate seating. Goals of seating The first important stage is to agree the goals with the individual and, where appropriate, their carers. Remember that there will be several different agendas that will influence the goals. These include: Client: comfort, function, communication..... Carer/family: does chair look good in the living room... Therapist: function, physiological function, stability, skin integrity.... In order to achieve the specific goal, it is likely that some compromise will be necessary.
