Jan trained in 1981 and has had a career which initially spanned 33 years working as a physiotherapist in the NHS. This has offered Jan a wide variety of work experiences in specialist areas throughout both acute and community services. During her career Jan has had the opportunity to develop an extensive knowledge of clinical and specialist conditions and to develop a number of qualitative healthcare services. Following retirement from the NHS Jan has continued in physiotherapy clinical practice working with Gill as an associate practitioner and as a locum physiotherapist in the private sector.
Jan has worked in a number of development roles as a physiotherapist which include; Clinical governance and staff development, Service management and Service development. This included the development of a Back Care Programme in line with European Community Health and Safety at Work directives. The training programme won a Regional Training Award and won accreditation from the West Yorkshire Education and Training Consortium. Jan has also completed a Clinical Governance postgraduate module at Bradford University following which she was asked to lecture on postgraduate modules for the University
Jan has a high level of commitment to the professional development of herself and others. She has a teaching qualification and has worked as a specialist clinical physiotherapist providing clinical leadership to a broad range of staff working in community and frontline services. Jan has a special interest in palliative care and people suffering from long term conditions and complex multiple pathologies. Jan completed a Cancer Care Education Programme provided by the Yorkshire Cancer Network and developed an extensive in-service training programme for therapy staff working in intermediate care to improve services in the community for people suffering from palliative conditions.
