I qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 2005 from York St John University. I have worked in hospital settings, community based settings and in housing, this has enabled me to gain experience of a wide range of health problems including physical health problems, mental health problems and CFS/ME. I have carried out functional assessments of people’s complex needs and provided support, advice and counselling where necessary. Over my career I have developed my knowledge of a wide range of therapy interventions, such as major or minor adaptations including the design and planning of these, moving and handling risk assessments, advice and/or equipment, advice and support to carers and relatives, grading and pacing activities and pain management techniques, fitting equipment and seating. I have been able to use these interventions with a wide range of people with complex needs and assist in the provision of equipment and adaptations such as specialist baths, hoists, Telecare, extensions and wheelchair access. I have also facilitated group work and training sessions. As a private OT, I am providing Occupational Therapy reports for case managers, private clients and larger organisations. I also offer disability access audits and design plans for adaptation work. I have recently completed British Sign Language skills Level 3 to assist with communication with any hearing impaired customers I may visit.
